Counselling for UVic & Camosun Students
University life can be demanding, disorienting, and emotionally intense—even when things appear to be going well from the outside. Academic pressure, financial stress, changing relationships, and questions about identity or direction often overlap in ways that can feel overwhelming.
Student counselling offers space to step back from the pressure, sort through what’s happening, and develop ways of coping that feel realistic and supportive.
I work with students from UVic, Camosun, and other post-secondary institutions, offering in-person counselling in Saanich and virtual sessions across British Columbia.
Common Reasons Students Seek Counselling
Students often come to counselling for support with:

-
Academic stress and performance pressure
-
Anxiety, panic, or constant worry
-
Burnout and emotional exhaustion
-
Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
-
Identity questions and life direction
-
Relationship or family strain
-
Low mood, numbness, or loss of motivation
-
Major transitions such as starting or finishing school
You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. Many students come simply because something feels harder than it used to.
Off-Campus Counselling Support
Off-campus counselling can be a helpful alternative if campus counselling wait times feel long or if you’re looking for more continuity of care. Many student benefit plans cover Registered Clinical Counselling, and in some cases, students may also be covered through a parent or guardian’s extended health benefits.
If you’re unsure about coverage, I’m happy to help you think through your options.
What Counselling Can Look Like
Counselling sessions are collaborative and paced to fit your needs. Some sessions may focus on immediate stressors like deadlines, exams, or relationship concerns. Others may explore deeper patterns such as perfectionism, self-criticism, or long-standing anxiety.
Depending on your goals, we may focus on:

-
Stress and anxiety management
-
Emotion regulation and grounding skills
-
Improving self-trust and confidence
-
Navigating change and uncertainty
-
Clarifying values and priorities
You won’t be expected to have everything figured out before you start.
Location & Accessibility
My office is located in Saanich (Royal Oak), within a short walk of the Royal Oak Bus Exchange and several bus routes, including 6, 30, 31, 32, 39, 75, and 83.
Virtual counselling is also available for students living elsewhere in Canada or balancing school with work and travel.
A Steady Place to Land
Counselling is not about fixing you or pushing you to perform better. It’s about having a thoughtful, neutral space where you can think clearly, feel supported, and learn how to respond to challenges in ways that feel sustainable.
Many students find counselling helps them feel more grounded, confident, and capable of navigating both academic and personal demands.
