Life Transitions
Periods of change, even welcomed ones, can bring uncertainty, mixed emotions, and a sense of losing your footing. You may feel caught between what was familiar and what comes next, unsure how to move forward. These transitions often ask more of us than we expect, touching identity, relationships, confidence, and daily rhythms.
Counselling offers a calm place to sort through the shifts you’re experiencing and to understand what feels important as you navigate this new chapter.

Sessions are available in person in Saanich and online across Canada.

Common Life Transitions

People often seek support during transitions such as:

• Career changes or workplace uncertainty
• Relationship shifts, beginnings, or endings
• Moving, relocating, or changing environments
• Becoming a parent or changes in family roles
• Returning to school or shifting educational paths
• Adjusting to health changes or new responsibilities
• Questioning personal identity, direction, or values
• Periods of “something feels different but I’m not sure what”
Transitions can be practical, emotional, or both. It’s common to feel a mixture of hope, fear, grief, excitement, or confusion as you navigate them.
Making Sense of Change
Counselling focuses on understanding how this transition is affecting you — not just the events themselves, but the internal shifts that come with them. This might include exploring:

• What feels uncertain or destabilizing
• The hopes or fears that are emerging
• Changes in identity, roles, or relationships
• Patterns from the past that resurface during change
• Internal pressures or expectations you may be carrying
• Choices or possibilities you’re considering

You’re not expected to have clear answers. The work is often about gaining clarity gradually, one conversation at a time.

Finding Steadier Ground

As we talk, we may explore practical and reflective supports, such as:

• Identifying what matters most to you right now
• Developing coping strategies for overwhelm or indecision
• Understanding your emotional responses to change
• Building self-trust and confidence in your decisions
• Setting boundaries or adjusting expectations
• Creating structure or routines that support wellbeing

Small steps often create meaningful momentum during times of transition.

Therapeutic Approaches

I draw from person-centred therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). These modalities support reflection, emotional regulation, values-based decision-making, and clarity during periods of change.
You Don’t Need to Navigate This Alone
Even positive transitions can feel overwhelming when you’re facing them on your own. Counselling offers a space where things can slow down, where your experience is taken seriously, and where you can explore what feels right for you, without pressure or expectation.
If you’d like to see whether support during a life transition could be helpful, you're welcome to book a complimentary consultation or schedule a session.
