Struggling to Regulate Your Emotion and Tolerate Distress?

stormy waters to represent emotional regulation for counselling clients in Victoria BC

Want to feel more in control of your emotion? Sometimes it takes learning more about yourself, how you respond and what your triggers are first.

Many clients describe feeling overwhelmed by strong emotions, struggling to stay balanced, or reacting in ways they later regret- often without fully understanding why.

I will draw on strategies from therapeutic models such as Dialetical Behaviour Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to introduce practice practical coping strategies tailored to your unique needs and life circumstances. This may include strategies to increase your awareness of triggers and your responses or learning specific skills so that you can increase your confidence that you are in control in your emotions and that you won’t “lose it”.

Working Together

As we work together, we will take time to gently explore what tends to trigger shifts in mood and how those patterns may have developed. Or, depending on the situation, we may move straight into practical strategies you can use today to begin to increase both your emotional regulation and distress tolerance.

Often, as clients build greater awareness of their emotional responses, they begin to notice a growing sense of steadiness and confidence. Over time, this can help you manage difficult situations by responding rather than reacting. These subtle yet powerful shifts can lead to improved relationships, better decision-making, and a stronger connection to your own needs and values.

My role is to support you in discovering what works for you—offering guidance, encouragement, and tools along the way—so you can develop a more balanced, resilient approach to life’s ups and downs.
